Charlene’s skilled voice covers many ranges… This excellent record also happens to include several potential radio hits.” (Oor) Charlene grew up in a musical family and from a young age she performed, recorded and sang in gospel choirs. At age 11 she was asked to join one of the Netherlands best choirs, Inside Out. And from 2008 she gained national fame thanks to her impressive presence on the TV programme Idols in which viewers fell for her en masse — including such Dox Family members as Wouter Hamel and Giovanca. And when she performed a song by Hamel on the show, Dox Records felt compelled to sign her in the summer of 2009. “Charlene has a voice out of thousands and is very talented,” says Bart Suèr from this Amsterdam-based musical platform. Charlene: “At Dox there are creative people who are able to make something special out every project. I also get the time to write my own songs.” Single, column, shows & video clip Charlene often writes with Dean Tippet, one of the producers of Suèr, Sings & Tippet. When the song “Take Me Away” leaked out before the album release, the famous Dutch DJ Giel Beelen began spinning it regularly on his 3FM morning show and soon many others followed his lead. Meanwhile in a weekly column for the free daily Metro, Charlene wrote about her road towards her album’s release. In autumn 2009, she released the single “Too Bright” (and the video followed soon) and played with her new band her first promotional concerts in clubs, on the TV show De Wereld Draait Door, with Giel on 3FM, and on the Tros Muziekcafé. The single Too Bright peaked at # 27 in the Dutch singlecharts.
